7:00 am Technology
The last few days have been about technology as I make the change from Dreamweaver to Pages, from Filemaker Pro to Bento, and from a MacBook Pro to a MacBook Air. I do not have the latter yet, but that day is not far away.
I need to sit back and do some background reading about Pages. So far I have been improvising as I create this file, but there are a few techniques that I still need to learn.
9:30 am Technology
I have just learned how to link text so it flows from one page to the next. The Pages 09 Manual describes this feature on page 106. One of the dangers of such a feature is that if one makes a change earlier on the page then it may affect all subsequent pages. So far I have been making sure that each page stands on its own. I now have this feature under control.
I have also used a program called Fetch to move this pdf file to a web server.
11:00 am Technology
I have just created two additional Page files, one for Technology and one for Literature. These are essentially the same format as the one I have for weekly entries but with just the appropriate sections copied into the Activity file. I will play with this a little in the next few days and see if I like it. And if it is worth the extra effort.
12:10 PM
Okay, where am I? The last few days have been focused on weaning myself from Dreamweaver and Snow Leopard and introducing myself to Pages, OS X Lion, and Bento. It has been a fun ride.
It is still breezy outside. The last 2 weeks have been almost continuous wind. But the temperatures are warm and there is no snow or ice on the roads. The wind is no excuse for not taking a walk. There is a little pie (Saskatoon berry - yum) left in the fridge but otherwise the Christmas leftovers are no longer left over. Now to get back to some moderation in my diet. That makes for two excellent priorities: walking more and eating less.
What else should be on the list? Model trains and geocaching. Trains first: work on building the viaduct, adding ballast to the mainline track, building some switch stands, running session 2 trains, reading history of the CNR. The list goes on and on. Geocaching is relatively dormant. We will be driving to Edmonton tomorrow so I may try for one cache in Claresholm.
3:00 PM Model Trains
I placed the yellow wheel stops on the layout and did a little work on laying the ballast along a short section of the mainline track.
4:30 PM
We are back from a coulee walk. There was a short stretch of the trail that was slippery (ice & mud) which made a mess of our boots, and there was a brief snow squall as we approached the end of the trail, but overall it was a good refreshing break from being indoors.
