April 13, 4:10 PM Geocaching - Canberra, ACT, Australia
In the morning Di drove us to Mount Ainslie where we had spectacular views of Canberra. There was a cache right at the viewpoint which we found fairly quickly. This wins the award for the cleverest hide on our Australian trip. We then drove a short distance to a trailhead and walked for about a kilometer to another cache site. This involved some cross-country scrambling as well as trail walking. We didn't see many birds. We then went downtown and had a cup of coffee at the Art Gallery. There were numerous fairy wrens on the ground and under the shrubbery.
In the afternoon we went to Aranda Bushland Forest where I found 2 more caches, bringing the total number of finds in Australia to 15. This was much more than I expected at the outset of our trip.

April 12, 4:10 PM Geocaching - Canberra, ACT, Australia
I wanted to try to find at least one geocache in the Canberra area as I was sure this would then count as the cache furthest from my home in Lethbridge. I knew that Ken & Di had planned to Tidbinbilla and so I found a cache in that area on the geocaching.com website and made a note of the coordinates. Then when we we arrived at the spot where we planned on parking the car, we all went off to find the cache. We soon encountered a sign indicating that the trail was closed due to recent flooding but I decided to ignore the sign and we soon left the trail to walk in a direct line to the cache location. Along the way we met a few kangaroos but they left as we approached. Once in the immediate vicinity I had no difficulty finding the cache.

This is find #12 for Australia.

April 10, 2:00 PM Geocaching - McLeans Ridges, NSW, Australia
There was a second cache located near the intersection of the Bruxner highway and Cowlong road which Sue and I decided to look for after we returned from Lennox Head.
- GC2MHCN - Resting with J & M
This turned out to be a quick find, even though the GPS unit was not operating properly. A look at the nearby gravestones indicated that they were James & Mary McLean (obviously McLeans Ridges was named for them). A tree by the plot looked promising and a poke in the leaves at the base revealed the container. That is find #11 in Australia.

We also did a little geocaching, searching for, and finding 2 geocaches:
Rocky Creek Dam geocache site
Steve spotted the container while I was still poking the brush for snakes
The second cache was found on the drive home.

This was another day added to my grid for days with at least one find. It also brought the total of found Australian caches up to 10.
April 2, 11:00 am Geocaching - McLeans Ridges, NSW, Australia
There are two caches only a couple of kilometers from where we are staying. I drove to one of these and made a quick find.
- GC2MHCH - Visiting the Family
This was my first find for an April 2. It is also the furthest find from home - 12652 km.
