11:00 PM Life
Today was devoted to seeing the Polynesian Cultural Center and show on the north end of Oahu. We had time for a leisurely breakfast before catching the tour bus a few blocks from our hotel. The bus was about half an hour late, but no problem as the gate to the Center's grounds didn't open until 12:30 PM. The trip up was with a very chatty guide who explained everything we saw along the route plus making a sales pitch for extra features such as hiring him as a guide for the rest of the day. Most of the people on the bus bought into it, but a few of us deferred as we enjoy the freedom of wandering about.
The various areas of interest were organized by island groupings. We began by watching the demonstrations in the Samoan center and then moved on to see most of the other centers. There was a canoe pageant in the mid-afternoon followed by a buffet dinner at 5 PM and ending with a phenomenal show involving about 150 people from the different island cultures. It was truly impressive! The bus left at 9:30 PM and we were back in Honolulu at 10:30 PM.
