I had a look at the Annabel Langbein cookbook and decided to try making the Harvest Tomato Sauce [p. 62]. It turned our really well.

(5:00 PM) Now that I had some sauce, what to do with it? I opted for our standard chorizo sausage dinner, but this time using a tomato sauce made from raw ingredients instead of a jar of prepared sauce. We shall see. Basically one adds some bell peppers, onions and the sausage (all lightly sauteed) to the sauce, and let it simmer for about 30 minutes. Serve and sprinkle with parmesan cheese. This tastes even better if there is a fine red wine to go with it. In fact the wine tastes good even if one isn't into the sauce

The Annabel Langbein book, "The Free Range Cook" has just arrived. This is the first time I tried ordering from a private seller (in the US) as a result of following a link on amazon.com . I spent some time looking at this book while in Australia and was very impressed, both from a design as well as a content perspective. Now to begin some serious reading ...

I have had a great start to the day. The soup smells delicious. Now to let it simmer and set and blend the flavours.

What goes well with hearty soup? Freshly baked bread. That is now in the oven. It has been ages since I last had flour on my hands, as well as on everything else. Anyway, I scraped enough off my hands to make a loaf (without using a bread-maker) of something called hearth bread.

Now I will try reading ...

Here are 2 photos of the results from earlier this morning:

I have made my first batch of granola. Overall it seemed to go very well. The recipe is from the Web. Instead of regular rolled oats I used steel-cut oats which made for a much crunchier granola. I tried it with some yogurt and it was delicious.

April 8, 7:00 PM Cooking - McLeans Ridges, NSW, Australia

This evening we prepared the dinner. We made a perfect Aussi meal - seafood linguini. Yesterday we bought some prawns, 2 squid tubes (aka calamari rings), ling cod, Tassy mussels, scallops and fresh egg linguini. Everything was Australian, including the wine that accompanied the meal. We followed a recipe on the Web and even though the whole process was new to us, it turned out to be a great meal. Fortunately we had a very large wok as well as a large serving bowl.
