A. Morning Musings

I will take a break from calculus on weekends.

Today will be Model Trains and Geocaching. Literature is always on my list.

Geocaching: I will try for a first attempt for two in West Lethbridge (GC1AWFD, GC1AWFG). I am a bit leary of the first one as comments indicate that it is difficult to find.

Model Trains: I want to be sure to spend at least one, and preferably two, hours today on assembling the 4 cylindrical hopper cars. I also want to spend an hour on the model train forums. I plan to give the URL for the Dales Depot website to the forums.

B. Actual Learning Activities

9:00 am

I have been on The Gauge forum for model trains, but have been disappointed in many of the posts. I finally found a place where I could post my web site (Dales Depot) but noticed that there has not been much activity in this area for the last few years. I may just sit back and watch a few of the threads for a bit.

12:00 PM

I am back from a very pleasant geocache trip. Here are the two reports: GC1AWFD, GC1AWFG. I think I have finally found an approach that I like. I create the basic report as a web page and print it out. Then when I return I add the details of what I saw and save it. I then open my Filemaker Pro database and add a record for each cache that I tried to find. Finally, I log onto the geocaching web site and log my finds (and DNFs). Then I remove the found web sites from the GPS unit. At the end of each month I will save all of the web pages for these reports as one pdf file (this will only take a few mouse clicks).

A search on the geocaching web site indicates that there are 53 caches within 2 miles of our home. I have found 14 of these. Who needs a car? There are still 39 within walking distance.

I am feeling adventurous today, and it is a nice day. I have prepared a planning sheet for GC15Z20 U-Drive, and am going to walk to it. This will take about 30 minutes one-way.

3:00 PM

Geocaching: three times lucky. Here is the report: GC15Z20.

I also realized while walking to this cache that the printouts only need to consist of the Identification box. Thus I should be able to put about 3 to 5 on a page. That is usually enough for most of my trips.
