A. Morning Musings

The second task this morning is to update the links on the left margin to include May. The first task is make a cuppa.

I plan to remount the shower tile in the lower level shower stall this morning. I have yet to find a grout the same color (dark rose) as the original and may have to opt for white or clear.

Now to give a few minutes thought to last month as well as the coming month.

Overall April was a very good month. Three weeks were spent in Australia where I presented at AusWeb08 and where I spent quality time with a number of very special friends. I have renewed my interest in Mathematics (focusing on symmetry) and maintained a steady reading routine of Literature. I have also begun a summer (but hopefully a lifelong) program of getting in shape. This will involve some initial weight loss as well as forming a regular habit of walking and exercise. So far so good.

Now a quick glance into May. I want to continue my Learning of symmetry and maintain my Literature readings. I anticipate more work around the house and the yard - something I enjoy. This might be a good time to refinish our patio furniture. I also want to try a few more new recipes: some for soup and some for the barbeque. I have a couple of ideas involving Technology that I would like to explore: one would be the idea of setting up a web-based data base of my books, the other would be to play with Second Life and see if can see any merit in continuing it at the present time.

I have a new recipe for lentil soup that I want to try for lunch today.

B. Actual Learning Activities

8:20 PM

I made a delicious Greek Lentil Soup this morning that included zucchini, onions, carrots, celery, cabbage, sweet red peppers, a sweet potato and tomatoes. There will be enough for a couple of days and then we will freeze the rest. We are certainly giving our new soup bowls a workout.

A busy day in the yard with a few sore muscles to show for it. We began by trying to straighten out a retaining wall beside our cement rv platform. This consists of two 6x6 lengths of wood laid on top of each other and being about 30 feet long. But when we had a close look at the lower length it turned out to be rotten and had to be replaced. Fortunately we had a couple of extra lengths that we kept when we put a rock garden in the front yard a few years ago. But this took awhile as we had to cut them to length and then make sure that everything was level. Four hours later we were finished. It still needs a coat of stain but already it looks much better.

While on the evening walk I saw a number of Redhead ducks, one Solitary Sandpiper, a few American Robins, a few Magpies, a Northern Flicker, a few American Crows, and a Yellow-headed Blackbird. Earlier today we saw 2 Merlins and a few House Finches.
