A. Morning Musings

5:20 am

Another beginning with a fresh Timmy's coffee.

The forecast for today is a high of +14 C. I think it has been about 5 months since we had a temperature like that. Unfortunately it will be arriving via high winds.

I am pleased with my indoor/outdoor list of priorities that I created yesterday. I may keep it on this daily openning page for a few days to reinforce the idea.

Indoor:

  • complete kits for model train layout
  • play with iPad
  • reading Literature
  • bring myself up-to-date with Dreamweaver CS5
  • study birding identification (particularly raptors and owls)
  • read books on photography

Outdoor

  • coulee walks
  • birding with camera
  • geocaching with camera
  • photography walks

As with yesterday, my top priority will be the coulee walk.

I have received an email from amazon.ca indicating that some books on birding have been shipped and should arrive on Friday (or Monday). I am beginning to get into this hobby. The Sibley Guide to Bird Life and Behavior is a book that I have had for a couple of years but never really read. I now see the value in this. It helps to have a good knowledge of the behavior of various birds in order to know when and where to look for them. yesterday's view of the Fox Sparrow is a good example, even though I only began reading more about it after I had identified it.

I may try using the iPad/iPhone combination to find a geocache. My thinking at the moment is to drive to the approximate area (i.e. within a few miles) and then use the iPad to give me driving directions to the cache. Once I am parked I will try using the iPhone to locate the cache. Not only am I interested in seeing how this works, I would like to see how much data I use on the iPad in order to see if this could be expensive.
