The cold weather has moderated considerably. This is positively balmy after the last few days. Time to celebrate with an early morning coffee.
There is a regular Southern Alberta Model Railway Club meeting this evening. Now that it has warmed up, I won't mind taking the truck out for a warm-up run.
I am still feeling excited about fixing the problem with my S-4 switcher. My problem solving skills in this hobby are improving. I now have a fully functioning model train layout. I can see where improvements to the wiring and switching can be made, but this can be done without affecting the overall operational status. I also want to think about putting a small restraining wall around the entire table structure to ensure that a derailment will not result in a tragedy. But the next step, with an immediate pay-off will be to install a DCC decoder in the steam engine, a 0-8-0 switcher, that I bought a few weeks ago. I want to have at least two steamers operational to lend that dimension to my operations. There are three main phases to this. First, decide and purchase the appropriate sound decoder. Second, install it in the locomotive/tender. Finally, program the decoder.
Early morning is also a good time for some philosophy. I will continue reading "The Middle Way".

It has been a few years since I seriously read a book with a Buddhist/Daoist flavor. Marinoff's book should act as a refresher course. I have generally enjoyed these books - they tend to be peaceful and positive. I like the philosophy but shy away from the institutionalizing aspects. |
Continuing to make notes ... |
This is disingenious to say the least. I do not see how one can say that he will not praise, condemn, or judge and in the next sentence advocate one particular perspective, the Buddhist middle way.
I also see a huge difference between a discussion of how civilizations operate and how individuals should lead their lives.
Here are the major subheadings for the remainder of the chapter:
The first four subheadings provide a quick summary of each civilization's roots. Good. But the last two are quite different. One is a comparison of the dropping of the atomic bomb on Hiroshima and the destruction of the World Trade Center on 9/11. The last section is a brief attempt to suggest that the future is dependent on everyone adopting a middle way perspective.

I just heard the following message while surfing a story on the CNN web site: "This commercial-free broadcast is brought to you by Johnson & Johnson ... "
I have been reviewing the operation of my Epson Photo storage device. It is fairly straight forward. I have deleted some files and am now charging the battery. It is down to about half its capacity. I still need to review the process for moving images from my SD disk to the Epson. Done.
