A. Morning Musings

We have decided to forego the cruise down Lake Chelan in favor of a loop drive to Leavenworth.

After a pleasant day yesterday we returned to our room at about 8 PM, turned on the computer, accessed the web and learned that the US is in the middle of a rather large financial crisis as Congress voted down a bailout plan. Being in Chelan (population 3,860) at the moment is probably a good place to be. Certainly there are enough apples here to go around.

There is some cloud today but the forecast is for mainly sunny weather. There are a few geocaches in the area. I may try for one later today. One (small) goal for this trip is to find one cache in each province/state that we visit. So far I have one for B.C. . Washington, Idaho and Montana are still on my list of to dos.

B. Actual Learning Activities

8:30 PM

Another good day, both with the weather as well as with what we saw and did. We drove to Leavenworth WA which is a Bavarian town of about 3,000. We had a good German lunch of weinerschnitzel and sausage & saurkraut. The senery was spectacular. At one point we stopped to take a few pictures and a fellow traveller gave us a few hints. He then pointed down into the stream and said that there were a few salmon trying to make their way upstream.

We also visited the shop in Cashmere where they make aplets and cotlets. This was very special for me as they are a candy full of early memories. Weird.

When we got back to Chelan we tried a little geocaching but gave up fairly quickly as the area was full of muggles. Instead of finding at least one geocache in each state we visit, I am revising my goal down to at least one in the US. That should be doable without interfering with our other activities.
