These trips to rural Alberta are proving to be very enjoyable. In addition to the avowed purpose, looking at cemeteries, we also see some gorgeous countryside. The grain, wheat, was ripening and the combines were in the fields trying to get the crops in before the first frost hits.

I am continuing to learn how to use some of the features of my GPS unit. Today I was able to save the coordinates of each of the cemeteries that we visited. We were fortunate to have an excellent guide who not only knew where each cemetery was, but could tell us stories about everything we say both on the way and while we were recording the gravestones.
This was the first time that I had seen a plaque commemorating the location of a small country school. In fact, I saw 2 such plaques today.

We saw two birds that we were able to identify, one was a new lifer, a Prairie Falcon. The other was the dark phase of the Swainson's Hawk. Although we have seen numerous Swainson's Hawks, this it the first time we have seen one in the dark phase.
Swainson's Hawk (dark phase)
Prairie Falcon
There was a sign posted near the Carmangay teepee rings site that indicated that Prairie Falcons were often seen in this area. Sure enough one flew by a few minutes later and I managed (luck) to get it in the camera viewfinder.
While at this roadside stop I decided to see if I could find a geocache whose location I had downloaded a couple of weeks ago. No problem.
That makes #16.
A perfect end to a good day.
