A. Morning Musings

I am planning to divided my activities between model trains and geocaching.

Much of the model train activities will be spent reading "How to Operate Your Model Railroad" by Bruce Chubb. It was first written in 1977 and is still relevant today, although it does not cover the implications of DCC.

I downloaded the geocache locations in Henderson Park a while back. It is time I see what happens when I visit the park and try to find them.

B. Actual Learning Activities

11:00 am

As a result of the reading I have been doing about realistic operations and track layouts, I am contemplating making a few minor changes to the track layout. I have just realized that I have a redundancy between two loops and will delete one of these. I will then use the two turnouts to add a small holding siding so that mainline trains can pick up cars that have been left out from switching activities in the secondary mainline that goes through Queenston, Prairie Dog and Lone Pine. This latter idea will add some functional interest to the mainline routes.

2:00 PM

I am back from my most unsuccessful geocaching trip so far. I tried to find 5 caches, all in the Henderson Lake park area. Although I was "on top" of all five, I never actually found even one.

But the trip was still enjoyable. Here are a few photos:
