A. Morning Musings

The coffee is almost ready. There is a strong wind warning for later today.

Joseph Boyden has won the Giller Prize for best Canadian novel for 2008 for "Through Black Spruce".

I want to continue to experiment with the creation of model railroad data bases using Ship It! software.

When I switched to Windows xp yesterday and tried to connect to the Internet I was unable to do so. I may need to contact the university and see if they can help me. I don't really need the connectivity at the moment but it does prevent me from updating the operating system.

B. Actual Learning Activities

6:40 am

A very good start to the day. I opened up Windows xp and this time I seemed to recall a menu option that was involved when I wanted to access the Internet. This only took a minute to implement and then I was connected. The mind is a wonderful thing - why didn't I recall this yesterday?

Since it had been about 6 months since I was last working within Windows xp there were 15 system updates to download and install. But this only took another half hour. And a very pleasant half hour it was. I had a coffee in one hand and I was listening to Bob Dylan sing "Highlands" from the "Time Out of Mind" CD. This song is 15 minutes long and both the tune and the lyrics work for me.

9:00 PM

Much of today has been spent learning to use Ship It!. I seem to have what I would call the first level of use pretty much under control. I understand how to input almost all of the data into the program. But I am still missing some nuances regarding the options for the trains.
