B. Actual Learning Activities

I was wrong. The hike along the Kettle Valley Railroad roadbed was spectacular but we only saw 1 chickadee and 2 ravens and the trail was too heavily populated with muggles to do any geocaching. But we walked for 6 km and then turned around and walked back. The weather was ideal with a bright blue sky and no wind. There are a total of 18 trestles over a 12 km distance. We walked over 14 of the trestles.

The return trip involved about 8 km of steep downhill roads with a lot of washboard. I learned how to use the multi-shift feature of the transmission which gave me 6 levels of forward gear. Fantastic! I was continually shifting between levels 2, 3 and 4 as I geared down rather than brake. We both think this will be useful in the winter when the power of the car in Drive may be too strong.

We arrived back in Kelowna and to our favorite eating/watering hole where we had another order of halibut and chips:

I Heard the Owl Call My Name

Margaret Craven

The front cover of this small book says that there are "Over Two Million Copies in Print". I am glad I have one of them. This is both a very simple story and a very powerful story. It captures the clash and the inevitability of progress on North American native cultures better than anything I have read.

I would rate this story as 5 out of 5.
