A. Morning Musings

We had about 2" of snow overnight. I was up at 6 and the sidewalks and driveway are now shovelled.

8:30 am I just checked the web for news and learned of the assassination of Benazir Bhutto in Pakistan. I am shocked and saddened. Time for a break. It is difficult to focus on anything at the moment.

B. Actual Learning Activities

10:00 am

Here are two photos of our front yard.

It is much prettier when everything has a fresh dusting of snow. The surfaces simply sparkle when the sun is shining. I am envious of places further north where the snow remains permanently for about 3 months, although I do have second thoughts about driving on the roads.

3:50 PM

I have purchased three sections of track and have made the modifications to the wiring for my layout. I do not yet have the reversing loop module installed, but otherwise I think I am ready to plug it all in and see if I can program the locomotive on the Program Track.

9:00 PM

Wowee! I can now control the operation of CN 6700, a C-liner diesel locomotive, using DCC. The various sounds are amazing: the clanging bell, the horn, the dimming of the lights, the sounds of brakes and air hoses, even the door opening and closing. This is even better than I imagined. The next big step is to see if I can get the reversing loop working properly. Tomorrow.
