A. Morning Musings
8:15 am
I am up a little early this morning, but there is no point in lying in bed waiting for the time to change.
Reviewing my musings from yesterday, I am pleased with the identification of my 5 main priorities:
- Fitness, combined with some weight loss.
- I like the idea of adding a paragraph describing my current thoughts on each topic. I have been snacking more than I should during the last couple of days. I must learn to stop this, beginning right now. I have had a slice of toast and peanut butter for an early morning startup. Nothing more until noon.
- Walking. This has yet to become regularized. I seem to find ways of using other activities as excuses for avoiding this. I want to make this a daily activity. I have a coffee meet scheduled for 9 am. I will walk to the Ugly Mug.
- Exercise. This might be a good early morning activity. I want to begin with a 30 minute workout on alternate days. There are two components to this. One is selecting a set of exercises. The other is monitoring my heart rate while doing these exercises. I have never been very good at measuring my pulse. Thus I need to buy a simple heart monitor for handling this. Today. I have identified two ab exercises: (bicycle exercise for abs) (abdominal curl on ball). I need to add a couple of simple weight exercises involving my arms. On the other hand, I want to start very gradually and not do any damage at the outset.
- Model Trains. This is now my top Learning priority. I want to fully understand DCC and how it relates to my layout. I have a couple of books on the topic that I want to read as well as the manuals that came with my MRC Prodigy system. This is a classic new Learning venture and I want to make some good notes of the process as well as the results. This will involve reviewing my notes when I previously was heavily involved in this - about 9 months ago.
- Literature. This is Learning priority number 2. I want to make sure to continue to spend one, perhaps two, hours each day reading a good novel/short story/poem/play. At the moment I am half way through "Seven Kinds of Ambiguity" and am thoroughly enjoying it.
- mathematics. I want to return to this. It is a great way to relax.
- drawing. This always seems to be too far down the list to actually be activated. I will try to rectify this.
Okay. Now how do I think the day will unfold.
- Early morning. Model Trains. Try to locate my literature on DCC. Also review my notes from last spring.
- Morning. Walk to the Ugly Mug.
- Late morning. Visit a fitness store and see about a simple heart monitor. Look for a 2008 Journal book plus some stationery for letter writing.
- Afternoon. Household chores - particularly decorating the Christmas tree. Perhaps a little more on Model Trains.
- Early evening. Literature.

Here is my updated list of chores that need attention:
- see about ordering some firewood for the fireplace
- visit dentist
- check local stationery shops about a 2008 journal book that I can use with my fountain pen
- begin exercise routine
- check fitness shops for a heart monitor
B. Actual Learning Activities

Nothing of note to report. Both DCC reading as well as "Seven Types of Ambiguity" are progressing nicely. I am beginning to feel at home, but am still having difficulty realizing the Christmas is less than a week away.
