Sunday December 7, 2008 Lethbridge, Alberta

9:00 am

I am eager to run my two DCC-ready locomotives on my layout, but first I need to attend to some technical matters. I need to install the latest version of Ship It! on my computer and verify that my files are still intact. I also need to update my Filemaker Pro database to reflect the change in status of my two locomotives as well as add records for the two hopper cars that I bought yesterday.

10:30 am

I have successfully installed Ship It! version 7.0 and have noticed that my files for the main profile are intact.

I have updated my Filemaker Pro files to reflect the new DCC modules in two locomotives as well as added two new records for the two new hoppers I bought yesterday.

I have added similar records to my Ship It! files for both the two hopper cars as well as the two locomotives.

11:00 am

I have brought all of my model train files up to date (Ship It! is installed and updated with 2 hoppers and 2 DCC locomotives; Filemaker Pro data base files). Now to try running the two new locomotives.

For the first time in my life I have 3 locomotives running in all directions, lights blazing, horns blaring. Incredible!

The focus and emphasis during the last few months has been to develop an operational layout with enough rolling stock and diesel locomotives to represent the 1950-1970 era of steam and diesel.

I still need to add a DCC decoder to a steam engine and I want to buy one more road steamer, but overall the emphasis will shift from purchases to operations. The major expenses are now behind me. There is still some work to be done adding industries to the Ship It! program, but I want to proceed with this in a slow manner, making sure that I always have industries (shippers AND consignees). plus appropriate rolling stock for each product before I try to set up a new cycle of sessions.
