After a week of inactivity, I have finally got back to working on the four Intermountain cylindrical hopper kits. I have not been pleased with the trucks that come with these kits. They are both fragile and run poorly. I have replaced the trucks on two kits by using a pair of Roundhouse #2919 Heavy Roller Bearing trucks and have then added Kadee 520 non-magnetic Freight Car 33" diameter wheel sets. The two kits were the Alberta Lethbridge kit and the CN Environmental Mode kit.
I will ignore the trucks on the remaining two kits and continue the assembly. I need to check with the Web, maybe a hobby shop, the Gauge Forum on the web, and maybe the members of the SAMRC to see if they can recommend replacement trucks and wheels for these kits.
I am now aware of Kadee #555 self-centering trucks (I am not sure what wheels should be matched with these.
I have now completed step 3 which requires attaching the roof to the body of the car. This has been done for all 4 cars. The roof is different for the CN Environmental Mode kit, but it doesn't affect this step.
