I made this my first activity of the day.

The goal was to have a look at 7 cars that had given me trouble in the past. I was able to fix 4 of these but the other three still require more attention. Nonetheless it was very satisfying to watch the consist travel around the outer mainline.

Here is a description of the maintenance activities.

• CP 269334 a 40' steel boxcar. I added a washer shim to raise the level of the coupler at one end.
  
  
• CN 79713 a Pte. St. Charles caboose. I added a washer at each end of the caboose to raise the level of both couplers. I also noticed that the truck at one end appeared to be bent slightly out of shape. I will keep an eye on this.
  
  
• Queensland Rail container flat car. I replaced both wheel sets with 36" Kadee wheels.
  
  
• AIS Australian Iron & Steel hopper. I lowered the couplers at both ends by slightly loosening the coupler box and then bending the coupler down.
  
  
• AOBX 527 Australian National Railway hopper. I lowered the couplers at both ends by slightly loosening the coupler box and then bending the coupler down.

I am still having derail problems with the following 3 cars:

• Queensland Rail container flat car.
• CN 552942 a 50' double-door boxcar.
• CN 665489 a 40' 50 ton flat car.

I then used my camera to make a short movie of the consist travelling around the outer mainline. This was imported into my iPhoto file and turned out okay, although the camera had difficulty focusing on a couple of occasions. I have not yet figured out how to display this on this web site.

It is fascinating to trouble shoot these difficulties. I am looking forward to having another try with the remaining three cars. Then I will have all of my rolling stock operational.
