I began work on the GTW caboose that I purchased a few months ago. I have already contacted Walthers about a missing grab iron and they emailed me back saying that they had just shipped me the part.

Although all that is required is the mounting of about 2 dozen grab irons, it is a very finicky operation. I need to drill holes for the ends of the grab irons using a #80 drill which is much finer than a paper clip.

It took me about an hour to mount the grab irons for one end of the caboose. But I actually enjoy this type of work.

The sequence of steps will be to:

mount the grab irons at the other end
mount the grab irons on both sides
mount the grab irons on the cupola
paint all of the grab irons the same color as the body of the caboose.

This means that I need to buy a small jar of orange paint.
