A. Morning Musings

The combination of model trains and geocaching is filling my days.

I have coffee on the boil and another scheduled for 8 this morning at Tim's. One can never have too much coffee.

The forecast is for rain/showers/drizzle for much of the day. Today will be a train day.

I have a number of activities related to both model trains and geocaching that requires me to try setting up a schedule for checking some of the online forums. Sunday is an obvious choice for the model trains. There are three forums that I subscribe to for this. An hour session on at least two days a week seems like a good way to start. The idea is to see what I can learn by reading what others are doing. A similar amount of time could be spent checking the geocache.com web site to see what caches are available in various areas so that I can build in at least one cache each time we go for a drive.

Model Trains: I realize that I still have some housekeeping chores to take care of as a result of deleting the reversing loop around Black Diamond and adding the holding track near Queenston. One item is to delete turnouts 64 and 66 from my layout diagram. Another update to the diagram is to add two turnouts and assign a proper number to them.

More Model Trains: I was intrigued with the description of an operating session on pages 30 - 31 of "How to Operate Your Model Railroad" by Bruce Chubb. I want to begin trying to do this with my operating sessions.

B. Actual Learning Activities

8:30 PM

Today was indeed a train day. I put in about 8 hours, divided almost equally among reading and making notes about realistic operations, revising and updating my Dales Depot web site, and running an operating session involving my passenger coaches. Everything went very well.

I hope to have a link to my train web site in the next few days.
