A. Morning Musings

Another glorious day in the forecast.

The morning will be busy with chores across the river but the afternoon may be suitable for some geocaching activity. The Southern Alberta Model Railway Club meets this evening. I am still vacillating over joining.

B. Actual Learning Activities

10:30 am

I have had a successful set of 10 runs on the mainline oval around the layout. Five of the runs were with just the diesel locomotive CN 6700, and five were with it pulling a consist of five cars. I set the throttle in multiples of 5, from 5 to 25, and had no problems or derailments. Excellent. All 10 runs were from west to east (i.e. clockwise). The next step will be to run them in the opposite direction. This is necessary to determine that the turnouts do not cause problems when the train enters them from either direction ( and when they are all set "open".

7:00 PM

I have been working at updating my data base for rolling stock and now believe that it is up-to-date, including photos of all the individual cars. This included weighing and measuring each car to determine which cars should have extra weights attached. This is supposed to help trains run with a minimum of derailments.
