There was a light rain overnight, making the ground wet this morning.
I am beginning to get my head around balance. I must try to find daily and weekly balance among my four main Learning activities:
The geocaching and birding are excellent outdoor activities, the model trains and literature are indoor activities. While looking for old photos of trains I realized that I once enjoyed trainspotting, particularly CNR trains. And I am behind in getting my Canadian stamp album up to date.
Learning Category | Planned Activities for Today | Time |
---|---|---|
Literature | Continue reading "The Black Grizzly of Whiskey Creek" by Sid Marty | 1 hr |
Geocaching | Try to find GC1AAW3, GC1ACZ3 & GC1AX8H | 2 hr |
Model Trains | Read manual on MRC Prodigy DCC & QSI manual for sound decoder | 1 hr |
I decided to let geocaching be the first activity of the day. I made a note of 4 caches within walking distance from home, used the MyGarmin website to download the coordinates onto my GPS unit, and set out with pen and camera.
I first went to "NS WEST #5" (GC1AAW3). This was a micro cache, which I found relatively quickly. This was also the first cache that I have found that was very cleverly hidden. It turned out to be a magnet that moved when I touched it and which contained a small piece of paper to write my name on. Then I walked over to the small lake on the university campus where, once again, I had little trouble finding another micro cache, "NS WEST #7" (GC1ACZ3). After these two successes I was confident that I would find the third one, "Seeking Knowledge" (GC1AX8H), since it is a large cache stored in an ammo can. No such luck. I am sure I was close, but the shrubbery was quite dense and I was running out of time. I did see three different deer in the vicinity. That made the trip into the coulee worth while. I never tried to find the fourth cache on my list - another day.
Here are a few photos:

One now has a sense of the nature of the micro-size caches. They are indeed tricky little devils. The two successful geocache finds bring my total to 7. The walk up and down the coulee was a good work-out.
