A. Morning Musings

I will make a morning trip to the paint store for some finish for the patio furniture. I will try to drop over to the hobby store to buy a model train magazine.

We also want to discuss some travel plans with our travel agent.

I hope to apply the first coat of finish to the patio table today.

I also hope to finish reading "A Farewell to Arms" this morning.

The model train magazine that I am looking for will not be out until September. But I bought the current issue and quickly found myself renewing my interest in this hobby.

I continued to do a number of small jobs around the yard and followed that with a walk in the coulee.

A Farewell to Arms

Ernest Hemingway

This is a relatively unemotional description of the Austrian/Italian front during World War I. As such it describes much of the pointlessness of war and the desire on the part of the soldiers for it simply to be over. It is also a love story of two foreigners, one English and one American, who both find themselves involved in the Italian campaign.

Hemingway's writing reminds me of Cormac McCarthy - very concise without elaborate descriptions. The title is a beautiful play on words.

I would rate this story as 5 out of 5.
