A. Morning Musings

I envisage today has being one of consolidation. I need to make a few notes on the settings for my two new scanner projects: digitizing my slides and digitizing my professional papers. I also need to make some notes on the procedure for saving my iPhoto files.

My third "long range" project is to cull my professional articles. I have about 3 boxes of these articles. I will approach this in two stages. The first phase is to organize them by topic. Then I will re-examine the articles in each topic and only keep those that I really want.

I must remember to visit the university today and pick up a couple of packages that are waiting for me.

B. Actual Learning Activities

4:50 PM

It took much longer than I anticipated to get a routine down for scanning my old slides. I couldn't figure out why some of the images from yesterday filled the screen and others were about 20% smaller. I now have that under control - the difficulty had to do with something called Home mode versus Professional mode. I then redid the first 20 slides from my trip in 1977 to Mt. Robson. Each group of 4 slides takes almost an hour to scan and edit (which removes dust and imperfections and compensates for some color loss). I simply set it up and then leave the room and find something else to do.

In this case the something else was a first review of all of my professional reports and articles. I have 4 major categories: statistics, technology, mathematics education, and psychology. I have reviewed the statistics articles, thrown away a few that I was no longer interested in, and formed a number of sub-categories:

articles

Within each sub-category I have sorted the articles by date. This may make it more difficult to find a specific article than if it was sorted by author, but having them organized by date gives me a better sense of where the gaps may be in terms of development of the literature.
