A. Morning Musings

I am still having difficulty adjusting to the new time zone. I was up for a couple of hours from midnight until 2 am. At the moment I am dragging.

We should be getting some serious melting today. The sun is shining and we should be able to make the low teens in temperature. The next few days look to be even warmer.

I bought two large edition books of "Paradise Lost" and "Divine Comedy" last fall. I am going to give the first of these a try. The Dore illustrations make these books a real delight.

My efforts at Diet, Exercise & Walking (DEW) are on track - then again it is only Day 3.

I am having difficulty setting up a short list of activities for today. We may go shopping for an electric lawn mower to replace our old gas mower. That should reduce (increase?) our green footprint.

4:00 PM

I am totally out of synch with Canada. I am just up after a 3-hour deep sleep.

I have read the first chapter - there are 10 chapters in total - of "Paradise Lost". This is one of the great classics of English literature. I cannot believe that I have not read this before now. The first chapter is stunning. It reminds me of the Lord of the Rings in terms of the scope of the evil forces that amass to do battle with God. The Dore illustrations are fantastic.

7:00 PM

No Learning activities, but a good time in the kitchen. First a fruit salad: the pineapple from Costa Rica, the green grapes from Chile, and the gala apples from BC. Then a steak with Montreal Steak Spice. And a red: Wolf Blass from South Australia. Life is good.

The Stanley Cup playoffs are on. Montreal is playing Philadelphia tonight. Culture at its finest.

9:30 PM

Philadelphia won, tying the series at a game apiece.

I have now read two chapters from "Paradise Lost". It is impressive literature. Milton's vision is enormous. It is hard to believe that he was blind when he composed this.
