Much of the day was devoted to building the benchwork for the addition to my model train layout. I began by visiting the lumber yard for a sheet of 4' x 4' 1/2" plywood and two more pieces of 1 x 2 x 8' spruce. I did much of my sawing on the front driveway (it is relatively easy to wheel by circular saw out of the garage). This avoided getting a lot of sawdust in the garage - generally a good idea. But working outdoors when the temperature is -10 C is not a great idea. But everything worked fine.

It took a couple of hours to cut a few extra pieces for supports and then I added the plywood.

The next step was to see if my idea of adding a board at the proper height would work for placing the trestle as a connection between Black Diamond and this new Town1 site. Perfect! It worked like a dream. It is very satisfying to find a place for this kit, which I built almost two years ago.

I am still playing around with various track placements.

The Coupland book is a delight! Cleverly written and relaxing.
