Haldir, a tree Elf

story

Frodo continues to hear the "quick patter of feet" behind them.

The Golden Wood of Lothlorien is home to elves that live high in the trees, on platforms called flets. The Company spends the night in the trees. During the night a large group of Orcs pass by underneath. Frodo also gets a glimpse of another creature in the tree.

The elves will not permit a dwarf to go further into the wood, so they finally agree that all members of the Company should be treated equally, and they are all blindfolded. They thus enter into the heart of the Wood, where all is beautiful.

comment

The suspense about the quick agile creature that Frodo keeps seeing is building.

Lothlorien is like an oasis of good, providing a nice contrast with the Mines of Moria and the evil creatures that lived there.
