I had a look at one of the boxcars that was giving me difficulty during the last operating session. CN 539027's couplers were too high and the solution was to remove the coupler box from the car and replace it with a Kadee box.

I have 6 criteria for maintenance of my rolling stock:

check coupler height and action
free rolling behavior on a 2% slope
check for presence of all stirrup steps
check for presence of brake wheel
check for presence of all grab irons
make sure that all wheels are clean.

This car now meets all 6 criteria.
