Monday November 24, 2008 Lethbridge, Alberta

10:00 am

I have just added 2 cars to my Ship It! rolling stock files. One is a boxcar, the other is a reefer. I now have a total of 3 hoppers, 1 boxcar and 1 reefer in my primary layout file. These are all 1950's era CN cars.

I have also added one shipper (Big Pine Lumber) and three consignees (Hillside Lumber in Prairie Dog, 36th St Warehouse in Jasper, and Queenston Cartage in Queenston) for lumber. This will require a boxcar. I have also added one shipper (Swifts Meats) and two consignees (Parkland Meats in Jasper and Prairie Meats in Prairie Dog) for meat. This will require a refrigerator car (i.e. a reefer).

It is actually quite exciting to see my "realistic" operations beginning to take shape. I will now add 3 more boxcars to my rolling stock files. Done.

I have just ran a 10 session sequence for my primary layout which includes all 7 cars, 3 shippers and 4 consignees with 2 trains (#500 and #501) running among the towns.

The next step is to actually run my trains according to this information! This will, I think, involve the use of waybills. Now to read about this.

1:20 PM

I have rerun the startup and the first session. I have printed out the Starting Locations for my 8 cars as well as the switching list for session 1 (this includes both train 500 and train 501). As near as I can tell at this point, I do not need the car cards or waybills. The two reports that I printed are all I need to begin running a session.

9:30 PM

I have completed my first running session while following the switchlist created by Ship It!.
