One more possibility that may be causing me problems with Ship It! is that I may have too simple a scenario. I am going to try adding a couple of more towns and then, if that doesn't seem to help, one more consignee.

I have added two Towns called Coaldale and Prairie Dog and checked the staging and populate options. I have added Coaldale Yard (capacity 50) and Jasper Yard (capacity 20) as Industries.

Train 500 will change to 501 in the Jasper Yard and 501 will change to 500 in the Coaldale Yard.

I now have to modify the parameters for my two trains, 500 and 501.

Now to set up a second Train for the return trip.

This set of values provides at least 10 sessions, but the actual shipping is not what I expect. I need to have a closer look at this later.

9:30 PM

I am back from the SAMRC meeting. I learned more about voltmeters and ammeters this evening. The ammeter should be centered on 0 with -ve values on one side and +ve values on the other side. Do not use digital meters as they are too difficult to read when compared with an analog needle. The ammeter should be connected permanently to the layout circuit and should be placed between the original source of the current and the DC power supply. It should be mounted so that it is easily seen from anywhere on the layout. The voltmeter is a portable unit that one can use with a pair of probes to obtain a reading anywhere on the layout. I should be able to find a voltmeter at Canadian Tire for about $10 - $15, and an ammeter at Trident Electronics for about $20 - $30.

Earlier today I was in Calgary and visited the Trains and Such model railway store. I bought 2 books and 1 steam locomotive.

The locomotive has a few simple directions for adding a DCC decoder and also for replacing the lightbulbs with ones that are rated at 12 volts/50 milliamps. There is no information on how to add a sound decoder. I am really eager to get on top of this.

I now have two major learning curves in front of me: Ship It! software and DCC.
