Saturday January 26, 2008 12:30 PM Lethbridge, Alberta

This has been a good morning. I have decided on names for the two new areas. Town1 will be called Jasper and Town2 Lennox. I think I pretty well have decided on the track layout for Jasper.

This track arrangement is clean and uses a minimum of turnouts. I have been moving electronic turnouts from spur lines on other locations and will now need to buy some manual throw turnouts to replace them. But I only need to buy one more electronic turnout for Jasper. I can have a train enter Jasper from any of three directions and drop and pick up cars from any location. Great.

5:45 PM

I returned to my local hobby store to buy another package of foam roadbed plus two packages of small track sections. Then back home to nail down the double track mainline beside Jasper as well as the reversing loop in Jasper. All that remains is the local spur lines and the two double track steel bridges. A very satisfying day. I still have to attend to the wiring for this expansion.

8:40 PM

I have reviewed all of the wiring needs for the additional track. I have two reversing loops that need to have reversing loop modules attached and have identified where the appropriate connector tracks should be places. I also need to add two additional connector tracks for mainline power. I have placed notes on the layout where each of these connections should appear. I need to buy additional connector tracks. This is dramatically simpler to think through with DCC.

I will need one more package of foam roadbed to handle the various spur lines in Jasper and Lennox.

Before I can run trains again I need to purchase 2 MRC auto reverse modules, 4 connector tracks, and the package of foam roadbed. Then I need to add the necessary wiring and build the base for the two steel bridges. If everything works, I will then have a great mainline track system. All of the spur lines can be handled at my leisure.
