Today was much like yesterday - more work on the table top. I bought a package of Woodland Scenics "Summer Grass" vinyl mat and put most of it on the plywood for Town1. It is a simple solution for scenery - but it looks a lot better than bare plywood.
When I began to lay the double mainline track behind Black Diamond I ran into difficulties. The result was that I had to re-lay most of the mainline track that forms the reversing loop around Black Diamond so that all of the curves would fit onto the tables. But the final result is fine. The track all fits and the curves are where I want them.

As is obvious from the first photo, I have yet to determine the track layout for this town.
I am still playing around with various track placements. This may take a couple of days. The only remaining benchwork is to set up the base for the double track bridges that will connect Town1 and Town2. I am definitely going to need a few more turnouts.
I must remember to add (i.e. buy) at least two connector tracks so I can bring power to this addition. I also need to check the wiring and insulators since I think I have a reversing loop situation in Town1. And I must remember that the outer mainline track will only go to Town2. This means I need a way to connect the outer track to the inner mainline track so I can also go to Coaldale. At the moment I have not decided on any particular industries for either Town1 or Town2. There is still a fair amount of thinking in front of me.
I will wait until I have the double mainline fully laid with the appropriate turnouts before I complete the bench work for the supporting span for the double track steel bridges.
