B. Actual Learning Activities

8:30 am

The last hour has been a delight. I have been reading "The Conference of the Birds" while sipping a hot coffee.

Technology continues to amaze me. I was reading this, and drinking coffee, with someone in Toronto who was reading and sipping coffee at a Starbucks. Text messaging brought this synchronicity to a whole new dimension. I really felt we were sitting at the same table.

A bit later I happened to close the book and noticed that the cover painting was taken from a manuscript in the Metropolitan Museum of Art. I tried typing that into Google and soon was at a web site where I could view a number of additional images of art work from this manuscript as well as read detailed accounts of this period of Islamic art. Incredible!

11:30 am

Model Trains: I have finished attaching the wheels to the grain truck and have touched up the paint on the tires. I have also reread the wiring instructions for the turntable and I am pretty sure I understand what needs to be done.

9:00 PM

Model Trains: I began work on the second grain truck and finished it this evening. The work usually involved short sessions of glueing or painting followed by a couple of hours of waiting for it to harden/dry.

I also spent a little time with the NYT crosswords.
