The books that I ordered from amazon.ca have arrived, at least 7/10 of them. The remaining 3 have yet to be shipped.
Here is a list of the new arrivals, ordered after I had finished reading "Rumi's World" on December 30, 2010.
- "The Illuminated Rumi" (1997) by Coleman Barks & Michael Green.
- I have most of Coleman Barks' books on Rumi and I still remember Michael Green's "Zen and the Art of the Macintosh".
- "One Song: A New Illuminated Rumi" (2005) by Michael Green
- This includes a CD. I am intrigued.
- "Rumi: The Big Red Book" (2010) by Coleman Barks.
- The latest Barks' book on Rumi's poetry.
- "The Gift: Poems by Hafiz, The Great Sufi Master" (1999) by Daniel Ladinsky.
- Hafiz was mentioned in "Rumi's World". I am looking forward to similar poetry by another master.
- "The Garden of Heaven: Poems of Hafiz" (1897)
- A small classic collection of Hafiz's poetry.
- "The Conference of the Birds" (1984) by Farid Ud-din Attar
- Attar was also mentioned in "Rumi's World".
- "Decoded" (2010) by Jay-Z.
- This caught my eye while I was ordering the above books. It is a book about modern rap music and I immediately say parallels with the sufi poetry. Now to see if I was right. I feel confident that most rap musicians are unaware of the potential similarity between these two expressions.
The challenge will be find the time to enjoy all of these additions to my shelves.
I have finished reading "Freedom". It was another slightly unique novel, with a glorious turn of phrase and a few non-too-subtle, and well-deserved, jibes at our current culture.
