The driveway has been shovelled, again.

We just realized than many businesses are taking today off since New Year's Day was on a Saturday.

Thus I am not expecting my "Linear Algebra" book to arrive until tomorrow.

Mathematics, Model Trains and Literature will be the order of the day.

I read chap. 6 Investigating the Matrix Equation Ax = b earlier this morning. Now to make a few notes.

Chap. 6 Investigating the Matrix Equation Ax = b

Here are the key terms:

• matrix-vector equation
• row operations
• augmented matrix
• reduced echelon form
• single solution
• multiple solutions
• no solution
  
  
• If the row-reduced augmented matrix has an identity matrix on the left side, then there is a unique solution to the corresponding system of equations.
  
  
• If the row-reduced augmented matrix has a row of zeros across the bottom, then there are an infinite number of solutions and one can use a parameter (e.g. k) to describe these.
  
  
• If the row-reduced augmented matrix has a row of zeros across the bottom but a non-zero value in the right-most bottom element, then there are no solutions to the system of equations.

This is a short relatively straight forward chapter.

I have begun reading "Room". Fascinating. It reads much like a horror story, but the love shines through. Another truly unique form of literature.
