I have just finished glueing a plastic rockwork facing (Plastruct #91592 G Scale 1/24 Dressed Stone Block) to the two end abuttments on the side that one sees as you enter the room. Books are holding the plastic to the wood while the glue sets. Watching glue set is a lot like watching grass grow. However I will be able to run the passenger train on the inner mainline so this is not a major delay.
A very good day. The duck-under is almost finished and the passenger train is successfully travelling on the inside mainline in both directions. I had some difficulty at the outset with the baggage car continually derailing at one switch but travelling okay over the rest of the route. At first I thought the problem was with the track or the switch but I ended up solving the problem by reversing the direction of the baggage car. I think there was some problem with the coupling action between the baggage car and the B-diesel unit.
It is very satisfying to watch this long train travel over the route. It is a good test of the layout and the track as the passenger cars derail very easily if the road bed is not level or if one of the joins between two track sections is not smooth.
Once again, I think I am very close to having my entire layout operational.
I have removed the duck-under while the glueing of the rockwork is taking place and this means I don't have to crawl under anything to enter the room. Definitely a good idea.
