A. Morning Musings

This will be a travel day, as we head off to Edmonton, with a stop at a GPS store in Calgary. I want to have a brief chat with the experts about batteries. I also want to buy a couple of geotags for future Travel Bugs.

We had a good trip to Edmonton. The new Camry simply hums on the highway.

A stop at the GPS Central store in Calgary proved useful. A quick chat with a knowledgeable salesperson confirmed my hunch that the best solution regarding batteries is to have a couple in reserve that are fully charged. I bought one more battery and an AC adapter cable that will allow me to charge my unit while plugged into a wall outlet. The cable also included foreign plugs for Europe and Australia. Until now I had to plug my unit into either a 12V receptacle in a car or into a computer with a USB port. I was also given a Travel Bug tag that I can attach to a small object of my choice and that can then be tracked as it is moved from one geocache to another.

The GPS unit turned out to be useful on the trip as well. We had heard that there was an excellent Mexican restaurant in Red Deer but had no idea what it was called, nor how to find it. Following the menu options in the GPS unit allowed me to see how many Mexican restaurants there were in Red Deer (one), and it gave the directions to get there. The chicken enchiladas and the soup of the day were both superb. I am beginning to see how this unit can be very useful.
