A. Morning Musings

Yesterday was the warmest August 18 on record: +37 C.

I am not sure how much finish I will be applying to the patio furniture today. Definitely I will add a second coat to the tete-a-tete. But I am not sure if I will add the third coat to the chairs - it will depend on whether I think the second coat is fully dry.

Time for a coffee and some thinking about the day in front of me.

There was a lovely cool breeze on the patio this morning. That, a hot coffee, and the sound of the water fountain made for a lovely start to the day.

I have decided to let the second coat of finish dry for at least one more day. But I will begin applying the second coat to the tete-a-tete. That will bring all of the patio furniture to the same state of two coats on, one to go.

I will be finished with this early this morning. leaving me with much of the day to pursue other activities. I would like to pursue the idea of a portable battery pack for my gps unit. There is no difficulty finding a receptacle for the 12 volt plug that comes with the Garmin unit but there may be some problem finding a case that holds rechargeable batteries that give 12 volts. A check with google indicates that Nickel Metal Hydride (NiMH) batteries are better than nickel cadmium (NiCd) batteries. They are both available in AAA size (1.5 v) which means 8 batteries would give me 12 volts. I will check a couple of stores later today and see what is involved.

B. Actual Learning Activities

10:00 am

The painting is finished for today. Everything now has two coats of cetol-1. I may wait for a few days before adding the final coat.

12:00 PM

My attempt to visit a battery store ran up against a parade celebrating the beginning of Whoop-Up Days. I will try again tomorrow.

The 5th wheel is ready. Now we need to make a decision about whether we will use it this fall or whether we should simply have it stored until next year.
