A. Morning Musings

More sunshine.

I managed to drop a couple of pounds since yesterday morning. It is amazing what a difference a good walk makes.

I have a meeting with a local car dealer this morning to discuss model options and prices. I am prepared to make an offer and then see what happens. I am also interested in buying a GPS system for use in the car. I want to visit a store and see what version of map is supplied with the device and then come home and compare that with what is on the web.

As is often the case, it takes longer to accomplish a goal than I estimate. The purchase of a car is a good case in point. This is beginning to look more like an adventure than a simple "I'll buy that one.". The first, totally unexpected, situation was when I was told that there was no model in western Canada that had the options I was interested in as well as the color we had hoped for. After playing with a few alternatives I decided on a car that I would bring down from Edmonton that had the right options but not our first choice of color. So far so good. Not great, but good. Then we decided to check another dealer to simply confirm that our first choice of color was not possible without having a car made especially to our specifications. He confirmed that it was not available, but if we were to add a "moonroof" then there were a couple in Alberta. Then came the second surprise. I asked what he would charge for it and was given a number that was slightly lower than the price I was prepared to pay for the car without the moonroof, a color that was not my first choice, and that we would have to drive to Edmonton to pick up. I now have a meeting set up for Monday to continue my negotiations.

A visit to the store that had travel GPS systems also turned out to be a surprise. They did not have any Garmin systems, which is the manufacturer that I have been keying on. Now I am seeing where I might find one somewhere in Alberta.

The day began with an expectation that I would have bought a car and a mobile GPS system by noon. The reality is that I have done neither and am not sure if I will be further ahead by Monday evening.

On a more positive note, we spent the afternoon with friends, sitting in the shade and sipping Glenfiddich and munching on cheese & crackers.

Rather than begin reading a new novel, I spent some time working on a couple of Hashi puzzles (see book below).
