I plan to visit the Hyundai dealership this morning and have a look at the Sante Fe, called a CUV (Cross-over Utility Vehicle). The vehicle is rated as 12 mpg (hwy) and 9 mpg (city).
Consumer Reports gives values of mpg based on a mix of city & highway and has values of 21 mpg for the Accord (EX L V6) and 18 for the Sante Fe (3.3 V6), not a large difference!
I have never driven an SUV, so it makes sense to compare at least two others. Consumer reports mentions the Toyota RAV-4 and Honda CR-V as best buys. So I may have to revisit those two dealers. I am leaning toward a V6 motor for the extra power on the highway.
I also want to make a table with 1-3 columns for each of Honda, Hyundai & Toyota. The Toyota columns will be for the Camry and RAV4; for Honda it will be the Civic, Accord and CR-V. For Hyundai it will be Sante Fe. All vehicles will be 6-cylinder, all wheel drive, automatic. The rows will be for cost, km/L, engine size, horsepower, plus a list of all options and special features.

The car activities are proceeding as planned. I visited the Hyundai dealer and took a quick test drive of the Santa Fe CUV. It was quite nice, but I am still leaning toward a mid-size sedan. That took most of the morning.
I have spent a couple of hours on the Hyundai and Honda web sites getting the detailed information for both the Honda Accord and the Hyundai Sonata. Tomorrow we have an appointment to test drive the Honda Accord and the Honda Civic. Depending on how that goes we may try to drive the Hyundai Sonata.
We also bought 2 bells for our bicycles as well as a front basket for Phyllis's bike. With a little luck I will get them all mounted tomorrow.
