A. Morning Musings

This is the first day this year where the forecast is for a high in the 30's. Once again, I am feeling energetic this morning.

After reading Ahtahkakoop, I am ready for a light adventure novel. I bought a Michael Crichton novel at the garage sale for 25ยข that will fill the bill. I cannot recall when I last bought a used book.

Today will be a driving day. We are about to take a 4-day "holiday" into Montana, aiming to visit Great Falls and Helena.

B. Actual Learning Activities

9:00 PM

We left Lethbridge at 9 am and made good time until we arrived at Coutts (the border crossing into the US) at 10 am. We were in line for about 90 minutes although it took only about 5 minutes for us to be cleared. We then decided to stop for lunch at Shelby. There is only one restaurant in town and it was packed. Fortunately there was a Subway adjoining the restaurant so we quickly had a sub and then continued heading south on Interstate 15. The drive from Great Falls to Helena is very scenic as we follow the Missouri River through some fairly rugged scenery.

We were checked into our hotel by 3 PM and then located an rv-dealer who had a great web site for Palomino truck campers. They were closed but the lot was open and we were able to look at the outside of a couple of units that we might be interested in. Tomorrow we will talk to the salespeople and see what happens. But our first impression was that they were quite nice but a bit larger than I expected.

We then had dinner at Overland Express. It was good, not great, but solid prime rib. I had a local micro-brewed pilsner. We then took a 90 minute drive east of Helena and toured some pretty farmland.

Then back in Helena we walked over to a grocery store (Albertson's) where we bought a couple of excellent Aussi reds for about half the price we would pay in Lethbridge.

The temperature today in Helena was +33 C with a beautiful clear blue sky.

Tomorrow we plan to visit the rv dealer and then drive over to Missoula (about a 90 minute drive).

Now to sit back and sip on a Jacob's Creek cab.
