The coffee tastes good. We had a very light rain overnight.
The first task this morning will be to make a few notes for "Paradise Lost". I then want to begin the travel book, "City of Djinns" by Dalrymple.

This is deservedly an English classic.
Even with the unfamiliar sentence structure, the story simply flows. I was immediately overwhelmed with the description of the original battle between God and Satan. Milton had an amazing vision of the scale of such a conflict. The remainder of the story continued at the same pace and level of description. This is an impressive work of literature.
I was surprised at what a difference the actual printing of the book made. I had a small pocketbook version of the poem which had fairly small print and then I had the recently purchased reprint of the original with the large Dore prints. I really felt I was reading a very special book, and I was.

I have now read the first third of "City of Djinns". I recall Steve mentioning that the Dalrymple books were fascinating. Once again, I am embarrassed by my ignorance of recent history - in this case The Partition (of India and Pakistan). I was aware that it happened but was not aware of the chaos and terror that accompanied it. I am already movated to buy a couple more books by the same author.
While taking my evening walk I suddenly had the thought that a neat project would be to see if I could figure out how to use the Dreamweaver features for creating a web page that utilizes a data base. Then I could try putting my book databases online. That would be really neat if I then scanned the covers.
I also saw 2 Solitary Sandpipers walking along the shoreline of Nicholas Sheran park while on my walk. This is a reminder to begin birding for 2008.
