A. Morning Musings

There is a light rain falling on the roof. We left a few soup bones on the verandah and a couple of butcher birds are making the most of the treat. I have seen king parrots, rainbow lorikeets, magpies and noisy miners and have heard a whip bird in the nearby shrubbery. There is the special sound of heavy rain drops when the wind loosens the water from the leaves of the trees. I love sitting on the verandah and simply absorbing the sounds.

B. Actual Learning Activities

3:00 PM

There is a chapter in "Bad Land" devoted to the time when many Montana homesteaders left and moved west to try again. Much of the problem was caused by the financial institutions who encouraged the families to purchase equipment far beyond their ability to pay. This sounds very much like the present situation in the United States with the sub-prime debacle for mortgages. We never learn.

I have just received a beautiful, custom-made fabric book cover for my book "Symmetry". It is truly beautiful. The material is primarily Japanese and the way that the different swatches were combined to make the complete cover has turned this into a joyous work of art. I am already treasuring this as a very special addition to my library of books.
