For the first time in a very long time, I slept in.
I am almost ready to delete many of my photos from iPhoto on my hard drive. But I want to be very sure that I have backup in case this doesn't work as I expect.
I should also complete reading "Prodigal Summer" today.
And I should also be able to complete the David Karlins book.

The day is moving along. I have finished "Prodigal Summer" and am almost finished backing up my iPhoto files.
Another excellent read. The book is true to its message of the natural order of all life on the planet.
Kingsolver does a superb job of presenting the message at all possible levels - the level of moths and birds, coyotes, chestnut trees, children, adolescents, newly marrieds, middle age, elderly - and weaves a story within this tapestry.
There is suspense, tragedy, humor, pathos, ignorance and wisdom.
Without being sentimental, which would have been a mistake for a book like this, she presents a stirring description of the variety of personal lives that can inhabit one small insignificant corner of the world.
I loved this book.

Another task completed. Actually two. I have set up a new iPhoto Library and have copied all of my 2008 photos into it. So that is now a nice small file with lots of room for expansion.
I then deleted the old iPhoto Library and now have almost 26 GB on free space on my hard drive. Excellent.
I did run into some difficulties when I tried scanning the cover of a new book. The newly installed Leopard would not recognize the driver. I had to locate a new one, which turned out to be an adventure (again) as the first two attempts to download the proper file gave me a file that would not install. But I finally found a North American Canon site and this time it worked. But another hour wasted.
I am about to add the covers of the next novel I will begin reading. This time it is one that I just bought the day before: "The Boys in the Trees" by Mary Swan.
I now have a bootable backup of my entire Mac laptop computer. This is the first time (ever) that I have had this. I have always had my documents backed up but not my applications and not in a bootable form. I used a program called SuperDuper which seems to have done the job. The program was very easy to use and the documentation was excellent.
