A. Morning Musings

I seem to be hitting a dry spell, at least with regard to this web page.

Yesterday was a good day for getting a few much needed chores done, but not a good day for working on the Web or for the model trains. I did very little of either.

But the car is clean and this morning I will take it in to have the front windshield replaced.

The novel "Snow" is almost lyrical with the continuing descriptions of the snow falling in eastern Turkey. It reminds me of the Norwegian novel "Smilla's Sense of Snow" as well as the Canadian short story, "The Painted Door".

B. Actual Learning Activities

7:00 am

This promises to be a good day. I had another look at using Parallels to activate Windows xp on my MacBook Pro. This time I noticed that the opening windows screen had the word "suspended" in it. Since the entire windows window was frozen I had no idea how to change this. Then I went through the various menu items for Parallels and noticed one called "reset". I tried that and now the windows environment is operational again. Great.

But it is still a good idea to see if I can get the proper settings for accessing the Internet while in windows. I will see if someone at the university can help me with this.

4:30 PM

It took most of the afternoon but I finally have Windows xp working (including Internet connectivity) and up to date on my MacBook Pro. The Internet connection problem was due to a configuration setting in Windows. I then had to download and install 59 updates (!).
