A. Morning Musings

The temperature remained above zero overnight for the first time this year. There has been substantial melting of the snow but the local roads are very slushy.

I had a momentary concern this morning when my laptop failed to boot. After two tries and no success I disconnected all of the USB and Firewire connections. That solved the problem. Now to get on with my early morning coffee and web page creation.

The coffee is good. Rumi is good. Snow is good.

Here is another photo of the backyard showing the beginning of the snow melt:

Let me think about my model trains for a moment. I need 6 more turnouts (all manual throws) to replace 6 electronic turnouts that I moved to the mainline from various spur and yard lines. I also need a few pieces of straight track to complete the route to Lennox. The next major task is to check each freight car for maintenance. This involves checking the coupler for height and action, the wheels and trucks for rollability, the wheels for cleaning, and the weight (following NMRA guidelines). I want to run a train of 3 cars around all of the mainline track. I should begin assembling the manual throw kits for two of the turnouts. I keep forgetting about this.

Another day with the trains. I now have the track virtually completed (except for nailing down a couple of spur lines). I have also conducted maintenance on 4 cars (2 boxcars, 1 gondola car and a caboose). The next step is to see how well they run as a train.
