A. Morning Musings

Today promises to be much like yesterday. My first task will be complete the revisions to the AusWeb paper and send it off to be reviewed.

Then I will be back to cleaning up my computer files. I noticed a stack of about 30 zip discs in a closet. I no longer have a computer that can read this "old" technology. But I want to check what is on them before throwing them away. Fortunately there is an old computer in the Genealogical Library (one that we donated to them!) that still has that capability. We will do that on Monday.

Another task is to go through all of the CDs and see how many of those can be discarded. Most of these discs will be out-of-date versions of previous software programs. That should be easy.

Finally, I want to try an idea from a book "iPhoto 5: The Missing Manual". The idea is to create a number of different iPhoto Libraries. This prevents the bloting of the file (i.e. 15,000 images) into a number of smaller files, which increases the speed dramatically. I then want to go through all of the files that I have on a small hard drive from about 6 years ago and create an iPhoto Library of all my older digital images. These will include our trips to Japan and the Yukon as well as Australia.

Learning Category Planned Activities for Today Time

Model Trains Clean-up mess around hole for Coal Loading Tower 1 hr

B. Actual Learning Activities

8:10 am

The AusWeb paper has been sent to be reviewed.

Now to have a look at creating multiple iPhoto Libraries. One step is to download a small software package from the Web - it is mentioned in the book "iPhoto 5 The Missing Manual" - called iPhoto Library manager.

4:00 PM

I have successfully created 2 new iPhoto Libraries. One for 2007 now has almost 8 thousand photos in it. I have located this Library on an external Hard drive. Now to delete these images from the original iPhoto Library on my laptop.

I have also completed cleaning up the sawdust and wood shavings from around the Coal Loading Tower. It actually looks quite nice now that it is on the layout.

And I completed the autobiography by Patricia Atkinson about learning to take care of a winery in France. This is a great book. I will try to write a few notes on it tomorrow.
