A. Morning Musings

One of my top priorities at the moment is to complete the opening web pages for each of the categories of non-fiction that I have in my new Books web site. At the moment I have History, Philosophy, and Technology completed. I still have Psychology, Science, Mathematics, Art, Birds, Trains and Drawing to work on. In large part this is simply a case of collecting together a number of books that I have bought over the last few years and then identifying a few that I would like to begin reading in the next few weeks.

Learning Category Planned Activities for Today Time
Philosophy Begin reading "The World of Zen" by Stephen Hodge 1 hr
Drawing Complete Jan 2 calendar watercolor activity 1 hr
Model Trains Redesign part of web site, particularly the Activities section 2 hr
Model Trains Review web sites for high level ground throws for turnouts 1 hr
Literature Continue reading "The Pillars of the Earth" by Follett 1 hr
Technology Make necessary changes to code for the Model train web site 3 hr
Technology Continue "Wikinomics" by Tapscott 1 hr
Technology Examine some mass collaborative web sites 1 hr
Science Create web page in Books 2008 web site for this non-fiction category 1 hr

B. Actual Learning Activities

2:30 PM

This has been a very productive day. I spent 3 hours early this morning reviewing my Model Train web site. It took awhile for me to come up with a better way of describing the various activities that I am involved in with this hobby but I think I have made a few improvements. It then took 2 more hours to revise all of the links in the new web site. But I think I have it all taken care of at the moment.

Now to sit back and enjoy a little reading from "The World of Zen". I like the sub-title: The Way to Inner Calm.

7:30 PM

The first chapter of the zen book provided an excellent summary of the roots of Buddhism. I recognized the material but would be unable to repeat all of it without serious study and the making of a few notes. I may well do this tomorrow.

I then switched to the Follett novel. It is progressing nicely. A pleasant story.

9:30 PM

I have spent about an hour searching the web for information on Caboose Industries high level ground throws for my non-mainline turnouts. I now know how to install them, what they cost, and where I can order them in Canada.
