Theme 2: Innovations in compilation and analysis of glacier inventories, morphometry and change

  • New GIS- and statistically-based analysis of glacier inventories (Jiskoot et al. 2000; 2002; 2003; 2009).
  • Development of novel proxy data for glacier mass balance and hypsometry (Jiskoot et al., 2000; 2002; Jiskoot & Marshall, 2003; Jiskoot et al., 2009).
  • Development and data input into (GIS-based) glacier inventories of East Greenland, Svalbard, the Yukon Territory, and the Canadian Rocky Mountains (Jiskoot et al. 2000; 2002; 2003; Kargel et al., 2005; Jiskoot et al., 2009).
  • I initiated glaciological discussion and produced documents on obtaining functional glacier data using remote sensing techniques and digital terrain models (DTMs), and further to develop empirical schemes for estimating properties and dynamics of unmeasured glaciers.
  • Innovative work on compilation of glacier inventories resulted in the invitation to participate in the International Workshop on Global Glacier Recession, National Snow and Ice Data Center (NSIDC), Boulder, CO, US (15-18 Apr 03) (Hall et al., 2003; Jiskoot, 2003), and selection as Beta-tester of glaciological data in the World Glacier Inventory databases (NSIDC, Boulder).
