Mosimann Laboratory

Facility Tour: Wet Lab

This laboratory is dedicated to the manipulation of genes and the production of proteins and nucleic acids.

Genes that encode proteins of interest are cloned and inserted into bacterial expression vectors. Large quantities of proteins are produced and purified to homogeneity prior to use in research experiments. We also introduce specific mutations into genes of interest to investigate how structure influences function and to generate novel protein sequences with desirable properties.

This laboratory contains common Biochemistry and Molecular Biology research equipment for the storage and manipulation of genes, storage and growth of bacterial cells, and for the production and purification of proteins and nucleic acids.
